Awesome thank you. I know what the W and C means, but what does the M stand for Michigan? and what are the differences in the engines is one better then the other? I guess all I want to really know is which is better for a truck hehe thanks again
I believe the M stands for "modified cleveland". I personally think The C and M class put out more power but parts availability and aftermarket extras are more prevalent with the Winsor class. For a truck you want something with a longer stroke the 400 has a 4" bore x 4" stroke. The longer the stroke the more torqueyou can make but the less you can rev and slower you'll rev. Torque is what you need in a truck
The 351M and 400M, (modified, don't think it's modified cleveland) aren't worth the trouble it take to install in your truck. Stick with the 302 or 351W and check out stroker packages, which will let you make monster tourque with either one.
Well cool thank you all so much for all your help! I think i'm going to move up to a 351! that should get my tires a smoking I can just hear it now "what in the hell are you doing building a engine in your room!" its gonna be great hehe, also I hear good and bad things about the Auto part store engines are they junk or just as good as any other brand builds out there i'm sure they use cheap bearings gaskets, if one was to get said auto part store engine and change out the bearings, gaskets cam and lifters would they be a good engine? be a lot cheaper then having a shop make one few grand cheaper I would think whats yalls take on this? thanks again.
They come with a warranty! Cant go wrong still a factory block, heads, crank etc... Just check too see how much it has been overbored and the crank cut. If the crank has been cut more than .030 I would stay away from it but like I said it has a warranty. I would also open the mains and connecting rods check oil clearances, and retorque everything just too be sure with a cut crank. Make sure you get the long block then. Some guys here may be able to chime i as to what year would be best for head casting

One more thing.
I have the cam lift and i'm also going to put on new Lunatia springs and push rods
The guy on the phone told me to go with rod 8.152" Length, later I looked in to it and those are for a 351 the 302 is 6.400" to 6.876? can I go with longer rods it seems they may be to long I dont want to put the whammy on my valves..
