I posted a problem i was having last week but didn't get much feedback so im gona try again it was probably my explaining, its a 2001 250 psd with 84,000 miles on the truck very well taking care of and pretty much babied since the last rebuild at 27,000, the trans will shift fine and go through all the gearsbut when i let off it for a curve or something and get back on the pedal it seems to be hung in gear and don't want to upshift, but i can stop and take off again and it goes through all the gears fine untill u let off it and it does it again the dealer looked at it and said i needed a new trans he said 3 rd gear was slipping but i dont believe it cause it shifts fine most of the time i can drive it for 2 or 3 days with no problems but the next day it acts up all day PLEASE HELP
First, just out of curiosity, why was it originally rebuilt at 27,000 miles? Next, did they replace the torque converter during the first rebuild? It kinda sounds like the lock-up may be acting up.
the first rebuild was because it lost second gear, and yes they replaced the converter and at 72,000 which was last december it blew a front seal it was still under waranty the replaced the front seal, pump and torgue converter now again at 84,000 more problems
the dealer had it for 2 days last week and there conclusion was that 3 rd gear was slipping and i needed a new trans or a rebuild they suggested the $3,000 ford reman, but i disagree with them now im not a trans specialist but if the clutches are wore out for 3rd gear wouldn't it slip all the time once i picked it up from the dealer it done fine for 4 days and now its at it again
This is a computor controlled trans ,If I were doing the diagnostic on this truck I would want to check for stored trouble codes, what is the fluid like? and does it flash the OD light when it happens?
I am a trans tech ,I have worked on lots of 4R100 ford transmissions,If I can help you I would be glad to.
fluid looks good no flashing o/d light when it happens im going to go by advance and see if they can pull any codes from it i let u know if it is any drove it again today done good going to work but coming home started messing up as long as its a pull on it it does fine but when my foots kinda resting on the pedal just cruiseing at like 35 or so is when it does it just like u reach up and knock it into neutral

There is talk right now about a new heavy duty ford trans that came out lately in the 7.3 fourm. You might go down there and look at the thread.
When my trans goes out I will get a BTS trans from Brians Truck Shop in Arkansas.
I'm thinking the 01s have the all so troublesome mechanical diode. If so, that may well be your problem. Might be worth a mention to the shop guys. You might want to do a search on the mechanical diode and see if that sounds like you.

I thought of that also but with trans already being rebuilt once would have thought that would have been fixed
Yeah, you would think so, but then again, you would think a rebuild would last longer that it did. I mean 27k and then a seal at 72k and more problems at 84K. I would wonder about the shop doing the work.
01 would have had the diode type intermediate one way clutch, the fix is to replace that with the sprag or dog type one way clutch, from the E4OD trans, hope that is what they did.
