Manual Transmission ?

Are ford manual transmissions as bad as every one seems to say? I'm looking for a new truck (to me) and found a 2003 F150 4.6l 4x4 club cab with a 8ft box and a manual transmission. 89th/km

They are a weaker Mazda built unit. They are fine if you don't want to tow much or haul alot of weight around. The tow rating for the 5-speed is a most 1/2 of the auto tranny.

I have the original tranny in my 97. It has 225,000 miles on it and I only replaced the clutch and fluid, never any problems.

I wouldnt call them, "weak", but they arent as good as Ford's auto trannys are. If you prefer to shift gears yourself, I could shy away from an F-150 with a manual tranny, but IMO you would be much better off to just go with an automatic. Nowdays, there is absolutely no performance advantage to driving a vehicle with a manual transmission.
