I dont think there are many on here with a stock exhaust. There are wild and mild. Only if you have no exhaust that is bad. If there isnt enough back pressure.
Well, I feel a little better.
I had heard stories, that if you went away from stock exhausts that it would cause the engine to run hot or even run bad......guess they were just stories.
Those are stories cooked up by the Al Gores of this world. Or by people like bearriver who just want to sell you their products...
Now that your engine is exhaling better Id sujest improving the intake side of things to really notice a big difference in throttle responce. A simple high flow element from K&N combined with a performance exhaust is enough to put a smile on your face when compared to driving a stock truck
Expect to pick up a good 2-5 mpg and a fair bit of hp too (5-20 over old system) depending on how clogged your cats were. Not to mention the big smile factor!
I am old school and the sound of glass packs sends a chill down my spine which is why I installed them instead of the Flowmasters which cost a bit more.
I absolutly agree, to much time spent buildin musclecars and truck, i think that chambered mufflers sound to tinny! Give me glasspacks or give me straightpipes!
Is there any better sound than burned out glasspacks lightin it up when the red lights change?
Being it's an 88 you need to keep your mods toned down a bit...the SD is more sensitive to mods.By mods I'm talking about cams heads so on and so forth...If you're gonna get a better intake......just get a drop in Filter not a cone......the so-called FIPK cold air kit isn't sucking cold air if it's sucking engine air....just get a good drop in......and get the 300-6 or 460 air horn from the airbox to the core support...it'll help you get colder air into your engine.Luck and happy holidays.
