7.5 Intake alterations
I just bought a '92 F250 With a 7.5 (460) and the fuel economy sucks i dont have the cash for a intake system yet so i just want to open up the stock box a little. When i took the system apart i noticed that about half way to the manifold there is a plastic piece that squeezes the intake down to about 1'' dia. per intake hose. What is the point of this and can i alter it?

It is to make the engine quiter. The 460 isnt going to get the best fuel milage in the world. All you really need the the filter. You can remove everything else. Is the truck tuned up good? Maybe needs 1.

Just cut the horns off and opened up the airbox a little with a hacksaw. Noticible difference in the power and sound of the truck.
Just ten minutes of cutting and filing helped more then the $40 and 1/2 hour to have my cat's cut out. The intake system on my 7.5 is more restricted then the system on my old 5.0's. in fact the air filter on my 7.5 is about 2/3 the size of my 86 5.0's . Also when i took the box out part of the air filter had already collapsed . thanks for the help
