My 07 has had a small leak from day one, the dealership has been keeping an eye on it. (hoping it would go away) After 9,000 miles & dye in it twice, they are sure it is the bed plate leaking. My dealership said he would install head studs, if I supplied them, but says my gaskets should be OK. Should I change the gaskets also? The diesel tech also said he thought he could see ATF on by bell housing along with the oil. They are going to look at the trans for any problems. Should I consider upgrading the torque converter, or leave it stock? The truck is stock for now. I am going to get A tow tune from Matt, & exhaust + guages, but that is all for mods. I pull a 14,000# trailer 1,000 miles a year.
I had my truck in for the same thing and they also replaced my headbolts with ARP headstuds while they had the motor apart. I'd have them change out the headgaskets as long as they are in there, but some think it is better to leave well enough alone since you do already have the improved head gaskets. As for the torque converter, if they'll replace that too, then I'd do it. My dealership didn't give me that option, but I've always wanted to upgrade the TC for towing.
No, the leaks haven't returned! I've only put about 1500 miles on it in the last month since getting it back, but when I was under there putting in the new fuel filters, I couldn't find a drop of oil anywhere. I'll put another 1500 miles on it next week and then I'll let you know if anything changes. I'll probably even put my tuner in for those miles and do some heavy towing up through the mountains just to test it out. I think that mine will be fixed though because my truck was leaking by 1500 miles when it was new, so this is really the first time it has ever not leaked oil!!
