96 auto hub swap
sunk the truck to the seat coon huntin the other night and now there is a funny roar in the front like the sound of mud tires on asphalt.
I am trying to take the hubs off and replace the seals and bearings. I also thought that while i was in there i would swap to manual locking hubs.
I first took the three torx head screws out of the cap. Then the cape came off. I hade a hell of a time trying to pry that black lock ring out to get the gray aluminum auto assemby out but finally got it. wiped the water and grease out pulled out a yellow half moon shaped plastic clip than two washers and some more gears of some kind. then pulled out an odd half moon with an L shaped metal clip out and bent one doing it. what do i do from here. I cant figure it out in the haynes manuel. how do i get that big nut off. Is there a special tool of some sort? also what goes back in and what doesnt when i switch to warn manual hubs. I read in an earlier thread that i may need a conversion kit. any help or links to pictures and diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

Theres a diagram and on the left is the tool you need. Its a "rounded" 2-1/2" hex socket do a search you can get for about 20 bucks.
