Recalibrating Speedometer

I was curious about the difference in performance/ fuel mileage that could be gotten from a speedometer recalibration. I would like any input on your use of the Superlift Truspeed or the Superchips Tirepaq. I think either would help my transmission shifting and help mileage, also. I current have 285 tires and may go larger.

TIA,
Roland

I don't think you'll see any performance or mileage benefit from recalibrating your speedo. The transmission responds to throttle position, load, rpm's, etc., not MPH.

The PCM compares the VSS and TACH signals in determining shift points. That is part of why my current DP programming and trans mods are causing early shifts due to wheel spin. I have already discussed this with Dennis@ ITP Diesel. He is going to reburn my chip. I am thinking of going with the speed calibrator to allow for differences in tire size which will affect this also. Having the speed calibrated correctly to the PCM should have positive results, even if only slight. I am looking for responses who have used these devices.

I have the Superchip Flashpaq and used it to calibrate my speedo. I can't say that it made much difference in performance, i.e. shift points,etc.. but it runs great and the mileage seems a little better but then how can you figure mileage when you don't really know how far you have gone.

the thing with the milege is that when the speedometer is incorrect, you have to factor in that the MPG calculation will be incorrect. So when the speedometer is corrected it appears that it made a difference where it really did not.

I thought the tirepaq was pretty expensive in comparison to the black boxes (inline speedometer correction devices.

Anyway email me or contact me if anybody has questions about in line speed correction modules or how to hook them up

i am happy to help

Thanks, Ken
