i have a 1990 f-150 with a 302 in it, its got 270,000 (km) on the body and about 35,000 (km) on the new rebuild. Its also a 4 speer borg-warner transmission, i seem to be getting about 120 (kilometers) per tank. It cost me about 65 (canadian dollars) to fill it up and it goes just like that. I used to have a 93 f-150 that had 306,000 on the stock motor. both have 35's, the only difference being my old truck got about 375 to a tank, same driving conditions if not worse, is there anything i can do, or did i just buy a guzzler. Im hoping there is just a hole somewere in the tank, or something like that.
Did your 93 have a 302 as well or was it a 300 or 5.8L, been my experience that the 302 is terrible for mileage in a 4x4, even worse when you put on bigger tires.
It does sound like your mileage is low though. One quick thought, I've seen it more than once when an engine is pulled that the fuel return line is left unhooked.
if it was my fuel return line would there be gas coming out of that line, its in an awkward spot to just check so is there any signs i can look for first?
I am also getting bad mpg. I was thinking it's just the nature of the beast. I'm currently getting high 9s and low 10s. I'm not throwing any codes and fresh tune up. Right after the tune up I got 13 mpg out of one tank and now I'm averaging crappy. I might as well have got a 460.....
With this kind of mileage out of the smaller engines why would anybody not go with the bigger powered 460? Hind sight is always 20/20, had I only known. I honestly thought I could get 13-14 mpg out of my set-up.
