i am experiencing the well known "door ajar" light when the doors are all closed on a 2000 Navigator. i have narrowed it down and found it to be the drivers front door only. i replaced the sensor that plugs in the bottom of the door latch and have sprayed, sprayed, and resprayed with WD40 and silicone spray. here is what i have also figured out:
if you barely shut the door, allowing the weight of the door to latch it, the interior lights go off and no door ajar(most of the time)
if you shut the door like a normal person, it is a 50/50 shot whether door ajar comes on or off.
if drivers door is shut, and you open and close another door, sometimes door ajar will come on and you have to slam the drivers door to get it to go off.
i am out of ideas, please help.
i just flooded it with wd-40 and then a silicone spray and then shut and opened the door several times. it continued to periodically do it for a couple days but then finally stopped. guess it finally worked out all of the dirt and grime. good luck
One further suggestion---if you have it available try blowing high pressure compressed air into the mechanism after spraying with lube---it has helped me---I do it about every 6m---terrible that ford hasn't fixed this---and it's why I really doubt I will buy ford again---no excuse for this type of problem.
If you don't have compressed air available you can buy portable air tank that you pressurize at a service station and use it for your source---I hope it helps you!
