Two days ago, the connector that holds the bulb in melted (its for the 9007). I went to autozone and bought a new 9004/9007 connecter for the headlight. The passenger headlight has the exact same connecter from autozone and i relaced that one 4 months ago because the OEM one melted. Back to my problem. I wired up the connecter the same exact way as the passenger connecter is wired up. The problem is, the light doesnt want to turn on when you switch on the headlights. I tryed using another bulb and that didnt work either. All of the fuses for the headlights are also good to. What can be wrong?
Here are some pics. The part circled in yellow is the connector.
Even though its wired up the same way the passenger side is wired up? Even though i bought the connecter new, do u think it could be bad from the factory?
My first question is why did the connector melt? Are you using some higher wattage bulbs that are too much for the connector?
As to why it didn't work - I think I would try first taking a multimeter and make sure you have continuity between the wires of the connector and where the bulb plugs in. As a second check, just hook the wires directly to the bulb to make sure that the bulb works and you're getting power (alternately you can use your multimeter to confirm you have voltage at the proper wires when the switch is turned on).
I'm not sure what specifically goes on with this system, you may have also melted a wire somewhere in the harness if you don't have voltage at the wires themselves.
I just ordered some new HID headlights (real HIDs, with lenses). I'll see how these work and get back to you, but if you're having problems with melting your connectors or wiring you may want to consider something like that instead of higher wattage bulbs.
IEH I'd be checking fuses; one should have blown before you got heat to the point of melting a harness. Especially since this has happened before. Possibly you have a fuse rated to high for the headlight circuit ?? Like was mentioned check for power at the harness with a meter. If you have power your bulb is bad; if you don't have power you have incorrect wiring; a burnt wire; a bad fuse; or a bad harness. You will just have to eliminate issues one by one.
Good point western star. I was thinking about taking the part back and replacing it with another one. Just to eliminate the faulty part from the factory idea. Then i will check those ideas u have listed.
George, this thread isnt turning into a OPEN discussion thread
The left side should not wire the same as the right. I say this as the wiring usually runs from left to right . also you could have a bad switch or relay.
So which way do u think i should wire up the drivers side? I really wished that i would of looked at the drivers side before i cut the burnt connector off.
George, i bet u anything u cant. Because u need my help to start the convo. Unless nick comes in then u won.
I have an 03 and if you want You could meet me at Akron childrens Hospital to look at my wiring on the head light! I am going there in AM to see my grandson.
