Angry Need Advice

Three months ago I bought my dream truck, a 2005 F250 KR CC SB with the 6.0 and 71600 miles, and it has been pretty problematic ever since. I had to replace the drivers side ball joints within two weeks of ownership, it's been puking regularly and the degas bottle is almost empty. Then yesterday, while at a Lexus dealership picking up a taillight for my grandmother, I walk outside and the truck is hot but it won't start. After about an hour I give up and have a buddy come pick me up. Come back three hours later, it starts and I drive it straight to the dealer.

The dealer found one code that had something to do with the speed sensor but couldn't find anything else, and said headgaskets were fine. The truck also started blowing white smoke on cold start up the past couple of days.

The fuel should be good and I run dieselkleen. The batteries are new, the fuel filters are new, the only is 4,000 miles old and I'm changing to synthetic soon.

Also the previous owner ran the edge juice with attitude and installed a silverline turboback(no cat) and an airraid intake. Before the truck broke down, I was headed to change the oil and put the stock intake back in.

What I'm really getting too is this truck worth the trouble? Are these problems going to continue and is this a bad 6.0? Should I just go ahead and trade it in before I get stranded again?

Also, I just bought an xcal3 from Matt and it is still sitting in the box because I don't know if I'm going to keep the truck.

I love ford and wouldn't own any other truck but I don't know if I can afford all this right now.

Any advice on what to do would be great!!!

HPOP stc fitting most likely.Ford has a kit to replace the bum fitting but there is no recall.Search this forum for STC and see how many others have had the same problem. The number of trucks is alarming for a problem that doesn't have a recall.

Did you speak directly to the Diesel mechanic or the service writer about this? How did they determine the head gaskets were OK?

Usually, if it's constantly puking it's due to blown head gaskets.

I talked to the service writer, told all the things that were going wrong. I think they put the die in the coolant and checked that way. I read that they are supposed to put a gauge on there run it real hard and if it's over 12 psi then the h/g's are bad, but I didn't have time to argue with them today. The truck has been starting and we will see how things go. This always happens to me around Christmas.

I appreciate all the feedback.

Here's the info on the service work order from the head gasket replacement on my truck:

Diagnosis per TSB 07-21-05 coolant degas bottle and cap passed pressure test. Pressure test cooling system failed. Road test vehicle while monitoring ECT218 (engine coolant temp) and EOT230 (engine oil temp) and found them to be in spec and MGP at 29psi. Removed EGR, found EGR and intake gummed up. Tested EGR cooleras outlined in TSB and EGR cooler failed. Replaced EGR cooler and EGR valve and cleaned intake. While turbo was off found coolant in turbo. Replaced turbo while replacing EGR cooler. Road test vehicle with gauge hooked in line to cooling system and found 21psi in cooling system. Replaced head gaskets and retest, passed.

Definitely ask them to check the cooling system psi on a test drive!

I agree with what the others have told you. As for the ball joints, the stock ones do fail quite often. Invest in a good set of aftermarkets. When mine finally bite the dust, I'll probably replace them with Moog.

If your truck is puking coolant out of the degas bottle, it probably does need head gaskets.

The no start when hot is most likely caused by a leak in the high pressure oil system. Likely causes for leaks are the stc fitting on the hpop, the dummy plugs in the hp oil rails and o-rings in the top of the injectors.
