SAS or TTB?

Hey guys -

I just picked up a 90 f150 I6 5spd, std cab long 4x4... I need to lift it a lil bit 4" roughly... my question is do you guys think it would be wise to got with the soild axle swap right away, or just lift the TTB and deal with the alginment issues and what not? I'll be doing some wheelin with it but mainly a daily driver? Thanks in advice guys!

You wont clear the trans crossmember with your front D shaft if you do an SAS unless you lift it 6 or more inches...
You can grind/cut the xmember.
For a 4" lift and light wheeling the TTB will be perfectly fine, and actually preferable ride-wise for a DD.
The alignment issues with lifted TTB dont come into huge play until you get into taller (6+) lifts.

Always glad to help!

Im a fan of Skyjacker kits, they cost alittle more but are unbeatable in terms of quality, ride, customer service and strength. You should definantly avoid blocks in the rear. Here is a link to the company i get all my suspension parts from (that you can buy that is) for a 4" system for your truck,

The Nitro shocks have excellent ride quality, but are more pricy and dont offer an overly huge benefit, the Hydros are the best in terms of quality: price ratio in my opinion

If you want to compare other lifts price wise, do so from this page

What would I prefer? What is going in my F150 when I get back from Iraq? You can answer both of those questions with one word.

Camburg.

If this is a daily driver with MILD wheeling I would higly recommend keeping the TTB (aside from the fact that you'd need more lift for the sas). You're going to have a much smooter ride with the TTB and frankly, with only 4" of lift, you won't have too many alignment problems. Take it from me, I've got 4" on my TTB and it tracks almost exactly straight. No problems here

swapping out the ttb would cost hundreds, and if you put that $ towards a good alignment on your ttb with a lift, its no comparison. i wheel heavily, on a stock ttb, and it holds up well.

TTB has its place, just as much as a solid axle has its place.

Want something that will take tons of abuse for rock crawling or trails? Solid Axle.

Want something that will be able to pull 16+ inches of wheel travel and soak up the bumps when flying at high speeds across the terain? TTB (or I beams)

Me? I like going fast.

One note about your TTB. Seriously consider getting some cut and bent beams from camburg. They will get you 5 inches of lift (give or take, depending on your springs) and they use the stock pivot points instead of drop brackets (which multiply the force added to the pivot points and result in cracked brackets and frames, eventually.) Cut and turned beams will be stronger and will serve you well.
