Using Evans -- for how long??

Hi everyone;

I'm curious about those of you who are running evans NPG+ and how long and what failures (if any).

I'll start:

I've been running Evans for about 74,000 miles. Only coolant related problem was a leak between on the output flange of the pump.

FWIW, I did evans mainly for the 0 pressure coolant system. Not completely sure if I'd do it again.

Mike

Mike,

Evans is interesting stuff and debating doing it with one of my track cars but never got around to it. Yes, the benefits are in the ability to use low to 0 pressure in the system. A few tracks guys i know use it, seems ok but have not been thoroughly convinced between the usual distilled water and a bottle of Water Wetter and going with Evans. Only thing i'd be careful of is that many water pumps need lubricant, and this is what coolant supplies and so 74k miles of same lubricant... Also, am not sure if anyone has torn down an engine to see the results of Evans, as there is no coolant filter (usually) and therefor no flushing could mean whatever deposits/build-up never gets flushed out. Lastly, with Evans if you have a leak you SHOULD NOT use water. Yes, in an emergency you can, yet Evans states then you need to do a flush, perhaps use their prep fluid, then flush, then refill with fresh Evans. Not the most user-friendly and would like to hear from engine builders about it, as none i have ever spoken with has directed me to use it.

Evans does make some GREAT custom radiators tho.

I am also thinking about making the switch to Evans this Spring. The more info the better.

Interesting. I've been considering getting into some form of cheap circle track racing and looking at a lot of rule books. Most sanctioning bodies I have looked into specify "water and only water" in the radiator.

What class allows coolant in the radiator?
