Just a general beware for you folks out there. I did a water pump replacement about a year ago and got the pump & new hoses from orielly's. I got some hose clamps from them of the "ideal" brand name to replace the stockers. Lo an behold, I notice a small puddle under the truck this morning. Seems that the "less than ideal" clamp had weakened, and was letting some coolant through at the top of the upper radiator hose. At least it was that and not another water pump!
I went to NAPA and got 6 (to have spares, probably going to replace them all) of some really beefy hose clamps. Replaced the leaky one and doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.
Thought I'd post this b/c a friend at work was talking about some Made-in-China clamps that were made of soft metal (not stainless).
Nothing I hate worse than trying to tighten a clamp and have it strip out and not have one to replace it with. On that thought I need to add those to my need list.
I had a hose clamp loosen up on the top of the radiator, it let the hose slide back a bit and get into the fan belt....almost wore thru it before I caught it! Needless to say....I replaced the hose, and clamp and watch it regulary now. Ford designed a hose that is routed VERY close to the belt!!!
just FYI... the "factory" spring clamps actually work pretty good when they haven't been mangled by screwdrivers... the right tool to release them is pretty cheap..
