ok guys got a question for ya,can anybody tell me is there any great differance between the mazda 5spd and the zf 5spd,also is it a straight swap to take out the mazda 5spd and put in the zf,this is at the moment a 89 150 with a 302 but the 02 is being replaced with a 351.thanks in advance for any help and i wish everybody a merry xmas
M5OD is a more close ratio tranny. It has better gearing for the 302's higher rpm peak power. The ZF is better geared for the better low end torque of the 300 and 351w. As far as I know, they both have the exact same clutch and flywheel set up and are completely interchangeable .
He said its going on a 351...
The ZF bolts right up to either the 302 or 352, only difference is the 351 uses a 28oz flywheel and the 302 is a 50oz.
There are 2 versions of the ZF, pre 1995 is the S542 and 1995-present is the S547, however the bell pattern is same. Just be aware which you have because it can be very costly if you order the wrong parts for the wrong tranny...
