I HAVE A 96 F-450 PSD AND WAS WANTING TO KNOW FIRST IS IT OK TO PLUG IT IN ALL WINTER BECAUSE IT SITS ALL WINTER LONG WITHOUT DRIVING IT. SECOND DOES IT WARM THE OIL OR WATER.THIRD IT USULLY STARTS EASY BUT IT IS GETTING COLDER HERE IN OHIO AND IT HASENT BEEN STARTED IN ABOUT A WEEK AND IT DIDNT WANT TO START TODAY IT CRANKED OVER FAST BUT DIDNT WANT TO GO. BY PLUGGING IT IN WILL THIS HELP START EASIER. LIKE I SAID IT SITS ALL WINTER LONG WITHOUT DRIVING IT SO I WOULD LIKE TO START IT EVERY NOW AND THEN JUST TO KEEP THE BATTERIES AND STUFF UP.
plugging the truck in will generally make starting easier, yes.
as for the truck sitting all winter, i wouldnt advise intermittantly starting it and jsut letting it run. if you are going to drive it for a fair amount of miles, yes, thats fine. if you are just going to start it once a week or whatever and run to go get milk, that is not necessarily a good thing for the engine. it will not get up to temperature and will introduce moisture into the engine. if you are going to let it sit and not drive it, i would pull the batteries and put them inside somewhere warm on a trickle charger for the winter. treat the fuel with a good diesel fuel treatment to help fend off any algae, gelling, or water build up in the fuel. in the spring, put the batteries back in and fire her over. good luck.
