Arrow Tuner recommendations

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this site. Looks like a lot of info on here that I'll get to soon. I'm sure theres a thread somewhere that covers this, But I thought I'd ask anyways.

I'm looking for your thoughts on a tuner for my 2004 F-250 4x4 6.0l Diesel.

All I really need is a simple tuner/chip with something along the lines of a 40-50hp/100#ft increase, the tow haul mode if you will. I'm looking for just a little more zip and some better milage.

I don't need big numbers or lots of options. I want to keep it simple so I don't go overboard and blow the head gaskets........

I don't beat the crap out of this truck and don't really haul or tow real heavy loads, so Its never really stressed near its capabilitys.

I previously owned a 2000 F-250 With a 7.3 and had a 80hp/150#ft chip and it was perfect for that truck. It drove and responded a ton better than stock.

So what do ya think?

Welcome to FTE. Try the search tab and do a search on tuners. You will find enough material to read for days.

But here's my interpretation of it.

The SCT is the perfered tuner for the 6.0 on this site and most guys here are going with custom tunes from Matt and Evan at Spartan Diesel Technology. I believe i saw someone mention a Christmas special for pricing. There is a link to his site above.

Any tuner, including SCT, will increase the chance of blowing head gaskets on the 6.0. I think most people put in headstuds at that point, total cost is over $2000. Got Cash?

Running stock studs here. I was running a Quadzilla race module and used it for about a year with no problems. I am now running an SCT X3 from.....you guessed it, Spartan, with custom tunes from Matt. No head gasket problems. I think you will find Matts tunes to be safe to run, and I think you will also find that is the general concensus.

If you are stock, you have TTY bolts. Not studs. I agree with statement about Matt and Spartan Technologies.

You have to shop around, but you can do better then that. Plus there is a chance that even in stock form he might have problems with headgaskets rather he does something or not. If the stock gaskets and bolts are good on the truck right now, a safe custom tune would probably be fine depending on how he drove it. However, if the gaskets are bad from the factory already, then running a tune is just going to hasten the inevitable.

Talking more power

I run a 6.0 f-450 with a b&w utility toe bed my trailer is a hallmark 40’ gooses neck with living quarters and a two car stacker lift .Looking for safe upgrades for power and mileage the truck is grate on the flat ground and small hills but when I hit the long and steep grades my foot is to the floor and on the long hills I need to push on my nee to keep it to the floor. Truck and trailer total weigh is about 25000 pounds I am not looking for speed just raw towing power .My last truck was a 01 7.3 the 6.0 pulls so much more with the 7.3 you needed to get ready for the hills miles ahead and even then you could walk faster by the time you crested the hill.

SCT man. There's a smoking x-mas deal going on right now. You can get really safe tunes from Spartan for whatever horsepower you're looking for. I'd get one but I'm poor.

No aftermarket head studs here. I am running an SCT X3 with custom tunes from Matt at Spartan diesel tech. Do your self a favor and call him. After tons of research myself it kept coming back to Matt at Spartan.
