just get a divorced 205, much easier swap than putting in a married one. Good luck finding a div np205 at a yard though, theyre a hot commodity. Try ebay, or our classifieds here. Theyre cheap enough to come across.

you have a divorced 203 alright, to put a 205 in you will need the t-case with mounts, front and rear driveshafts, shifter, intermediate driveshaft and locking hubs, I have everything to do the swap if you get stuck on anything, I'm also interested in getting the input shaft from your 203 if you're willing to part with it
CRAP...I'm doing this now and had no idea that all that stuff needed changed out... i just got a 205 and haven't had the time to look what needs to be done. this is turning into a headache. do you have to change all that stuff??
use the 203 range box and ge ta married 205 and a doubler kit and make it a divorced 203/205 double low range doubler.. that would be neat. and thats is what i am going to do with my divorced 203
you don't HAVE to change the hubs, and you can have driveshafts made from yours. Could possibly fab a crossmember. Shifter would be the most important part because the 203 shifter ball would show the wrong pattern

the 205 will bolt to the crossmember you have as long as it has the original mounts, all of your driveshafts will be too short, the front will have a cv joint at the t-case end, the 203 is over 12" longer than the 205, can get by without the hubs for now but wasn't that the point of the 205 to disconnect the front drive?
To be totally honest the only reason I ever got rid of the 203 was because I got irritated when they popped out of lock during heavy wheeling. If he's trying to conserve fuel I don't think he's driving the right vehicle. Otherwise the 203 is a very strong transfer case....
