TS Chip question

Hey guys. I have been running the 6 position chip for a while now and have installed several others for people. My question involves how to tell if the chip is working. On the new ones (and used to be on mine), when you change settings you would feel a change in RPMs. Now in mine there is no noticable difference. This is done at idle. It does switch into the high idle mode so I suspect it is making contact. Just wondering if some of you who have been running one long notice the same thing.

BTW, the truck runs fine and has plenty of towing power. Does not seem to put out as much black smoke as it once did. May be from the B20? Also has slow pedal response but plenty of power once it spools up. Can hit 25psi easily on the gauge.

If you have to ask about whether your chip is performing anymore, I would unhook it and drive it stock. If you can't tell a BIG difference in performance, I would get a DP. I promise you you will notice a difference then. .

They don't call it permagrin for nothing....

I would call TS and see what they think. Other than that I agree with Jason. I can tell when I switch my DP at idle. And I can da** sure tell at WOT.

Only time my RPMs change is going into the 140 setting....I don't think the others really change RPMs, notice a change in exhaust tone though.

I know on the biodiesel you don't get as much smoke.

My chip is very responsive.

I spoke to TS and apparently the chip is functioning as intended. If the high idle works then so does everything else. Some trucks may have audible changes when position is switched, some wont. Like I said, the truck runs strong, I just noticed no difference in truck tone when switching.

As a side note, I should be getting the AE software anyday now and can do a more thorough checkup. Getting lots of white smoke when she's cold.

I wish someone live near me with a truck like mine with a TS chip. I would like to feel if there is a difference in the chips. I have only used a superchip in my truck and I can tell you there is major difference.

As far as horsepower....pretty much any chip (from DI, DP, TS, Tony Wildman, Elite, BTS, etc...) is going to feel the same power wise with stock injectors. Differences will be in the fine tuning of things.....and not all trucks react the same to the same programs.

I've ran a few different chips and driven other trucks with others.....and a few years back we did a chip shootout (same truck, strapped on a dyno just swapped chips) with DI, TS and Diesel Power (Bill's tuning). All within 5rwhp of each other. It all really comes down to personal preference really. I feel any of the tuners I mentioned will/can get you programs dialed in for your setup that you will like.

Just my $.02

Disagree. I don't have the others but I know of enough changes to DP that have reported a different story.

Stock sticks, stock hpop all chips are going to be close...dyno proven assuming the chip and program are functioning properly in the truck.

Now, you get into aftermarket sticks, big oil, big air, etc.....the guys who have the most experience with these setups are going to be the best. And of course you have people like Jody who offer live tuning.

I've ran 3 different sets of DP programs and 3 different sets of TS programs.....fine tuning has been the only difference I've noticed (i.e trans shifting, responsiveness, etc...). I've liked the TS the best now that I have a BTS trans. A more responsive chip will make you think you are making more power.....but strap them all to a dyno on the same truck and you aren't going to get beyond 300-330rwhp on a truck with stock sticks, stock oil, stock air, etc...

Again, just my take on it from what I've seen and the numbers trucks run on the dyno.

Didn't see DP listed in the 'shootout' either. Hmmm.

Back then (early 03) there was no Jody and DP-Tuner...it was Bill at Diesel Power.

I'm glad you guys like your Dp-Tuner stuff...like I said I've ran 3 different sets of files from them (2 with the stock trans and one with my BTS). Jody and Diane have a very loyal customer base and lots of high hp trucks with big oil, big sticks, big air, etc.. running their tunes posting awesome numbers.

Just stating the facts of what is possible out of a truck with stock sticks, stock hpop and stock air.....tons of people have dyno'd all the different chips.

Glad to hear it. I have only had experience with the DI chip and after reading all the glowing DP posts I have developed a severe case of chip envy.
