Unhappy sensors bad w/o setting code?

hey everyone! i am still trying to fix my '98 5.4 expy 4wd. at first it set codes 1309, and 301. changed plug and coil. no help. then it set 301,303,and 307, along with 1309. then it set 303, 305,and 307. so i changed the camshaft sensor. now it is 302 and 1309. changing the cam sensor really improved some things, like accellerating from a dead stop, smoother accelleration, felt like it had more power. but i can still feel the misfire. when i change gears (i have an automatic so i don't really change them, they change themselves), and still when i drive farther. its as if the warmer the engine gets the rougher it runs. and it still runs rough. before if i backed off the gas pedal while it was bucking (it doesn't always buck, sometimes it coughs, or hiccups) it would stop, now it is almost constant. but before while the misfire was most pronounced, and the driveability problems most pronounced when accelerating from a dead stop or shifting gears, with no power and feeling like i was dumping fuel in dead cylinders, well now it almost runs like it used to but with an almost constant shuddering. i am sorry i am not explaining myself well. what i need to know is if the sensors could be bad without setting a code? because i read that it could be the IAC or the CKP sensor, but aren't they supposed to set codes? and how could the crankshaft position sensor be bad if it is still telling the computer that the engine is misfiring and which cylinder is the culprit? could all of my coils be intermittently bad? don't you think it is strange to go from #1 to #1,#3, and #7; then to #3,#5 and #7 and now to #2? i haven't done anything to fix any but the number 1. any ideas ? i would be so very grateful! thanks, robyn
