I just found this site a few days ago and am I ever glad I did. I've been thinking about getting either a 2001 or 2002 SuperCrew Lariat or a Chev Silverado Z71 1500HD or 2500HD within the next month or so. However, after reading thru many of the postings on this site, I am starting to lean towards the Chev. It seems like there are far too many problems with the SuperCrew. Its a great looking truck but there seem to be a lot of unhappy SC owners out there. I admit that I haven't been able to find a Chevrolet message board site so I can read some reveiws by owners. Can anyone recommend one? I still have an open mind about the Ford SC but would like to hear some comments.
Thanks.
I've put together two picture sites of the two brands. Have a look.

You will be taking a chance with either one you buy. Some say the SCrew has build quality problems. I haven't had mine back to the dealer for anything. The Chevy is having major oil burn problems with the 5.3. I don't believe they have solved the problem as of yet. You might try www.fordvschevy.com for a comparison.Just don't get super stupid and buy a Dodge.
No one can say we're unbiased here. If you want an honest comparision, check the Chevy message boards too, compare experiences, read reviews and make an informed choice... I believe that you'll probably choose Ford.
No worries about buying a Dodge. It will never happen. I just found a few Chevy reviews at Carpoint.com and it looks like many Chevy purhasers have regretted their decision. Here's a quote from a guy who bought 10 trucks for his business...."I recently purchased 10 new trucks for my business. 3 Chevys, 4 Fords and 3 Dodges. We have had numerous problems with the Silverado's where as the other makes have had none. The Fords are the most Comfortable and the Dodges actually make the best work trucks. The chevy also have horrible clearance and have bottomed out on some of the construction sites. Overall the Ford is the best overall choice. Lots of stuff breaks on the Chevy's when you work it hard."

I own a 01 Supercrew 5.4 and an 01 Z-71 5.3, The Crew has been back to the dealer once for a front end alignment at 7,000 miles. The dealer took care of it in about an hour.
The Z has been back twice and i am currently waiting for a new drive shaft yoke to come in to fix the rearend under warranty. The Z also went in for alignment an the window motors have gone out twice. The dealer told me chevy has had a problem with the drive shaft yokes and windows on them since 99. He also told me to expect the windows to go out again because of poor quality. This makes me very angry because i can't afford to be without a vehicle.
Please don't think ford is the only one having problems
I know several people that are having the same problems on the Z-71 HDs

I own a 2002 super Crew Lariat, 5.4 engine, 4X4 and I couldn't be happier with the truck. I have yet to have the first problem. It drives and handles well, and has absolutely no squeaks, rattles, rough edges, or bad assembly anywhere, inside or out. Don't let the problems that you read about in this forum poisen you on Ford. All makes can and do have problems. GM is certainly not immune to them, nor is Dodge. Log onto the Chevy forums and read about their ongoing problems with powertrains, windows, fit and finish, etc. I am a long time Ford owner, and am still happy with the brand.
And by the way.. on almost any message board you will find complaints about poeples trucks. That is what the boards are for. To fix problems or improve your truck. There are a lot more happy Ford owners than revealed on the posts. We just don't need to say we love our trucks because it is implied by even visiting the site. If anyone on these boards thought any of the problems were that bad they would go buy a Chevy. I have had better times and more looks with my Supercrew than ever before.
Thanks for the info. I am starting to come back to the Ford SC! I have read reviews on both CHEV and FORD and although there are problems with both I feel I'll get more bang for the buck with the Ford....and probably far less problems.

Thanks for the feedback. Its a great website full of good information for current and prospective owners. I look forward to praising my new SC on this site. Hope to get one within the next couple of months.
I had to upgrade to a full size frome a Tacoma because of kids. It was hard to leave a liftime of Toyota's. I was unable to afford a Tundra and Ford had the 4dr extra cab. I got a great deal from the best dealer in the world "BowenScarff Ford in Kent WA"
(shameless plug but they have sold me an Escort, F150, and Windstar. All no hassel, great price and Helene Howard put up with my numerous visits and test drives with out any pressure)
To the point:
My best friend has grown up Chevy . My truck is a 2000 F150 supercrew, 4x4, xlt. He just bought comprable 2001 Chev. He has had to borrow my truck twice already because his has been in the shop for driveline yokes, and other defects. What a great feeling to pull up to the Chevy dealership and pick him up in my Ford.
I found this site when looking at the 01’ SC, I also found many complaints, after checking other sites I found complaints with all make trucks. I have had no problems with my 01’ SC but this is the first time I posted my experience. I just spend a few lunch hours reading other posts for the most part. Just remember most owners that haven’t had a bad experience don’t post.
Just a note: My cousin has an 01 Chevy half-ton and has the driveline noise(hasn't failed yet) The dealer says its normal. I told him drivelines don't make noise if its right. I have an 01 supercrew the only problem besides the radiator fiasco was a door latch sticking and the bed was on crooked (both have been fixed). I am not partial I just happened to buy a Ford.
