voluntary reflash

my brother owns a 08 6.4 and has the high idle, white smoke, rough running, truck that fits the reflash tpc bulletin to be covered under the recall/warranty. we took it to the local dealership (sam galloway ford) and ask them to do the reflash since his truck has the above symptoms. they kept the truck for most of the day, called us and said "we can't make it duplicate the symptoms, so until it starts doing it agian, thier isn't anything we can do about it." we ask them if we could pay them to do a reflash and they said they first needed to place a VDR in it to make sure it needs it. what kind of B.S. is this. it definately fits the criteria and if we offer to pay for it, shouldn't it be done? i am starting to lose faith in the big blue oval.

Ford will plug there laptop up and read the ver. no. of the flash. It will tell them if it needs the flash. It is all driven off the version of flash it has installed.
I watched them do this yesterday to mine...It does not give them the option to reflash if it has the latest version....

Be careful I had mine reflashed about 4 times under warranty went from 15.8 mpg to
as of yesterday 11.2 ! and it takes alot of care to get that. It went for a long time in the single digits. I had all those issues lose of power and bad shifts, high idle.

My 08 F250 was built in mid-July and I had those same symptoms. It was stuck in the high-idle regen when I took it in, though, so they had no problem seeing what mine was doing. They reflashed it and solved all those symptoms.

I too caution you on the reflash as mine was done (w/o my permission) and my mileage has been horrible since. I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to have it reset back to factory.

in order for Ford to see if your truck has the latest flash version with their laptop, they MUST have the latest updates downloaded into that laptop first. They could have not upgraded to the newest IDM software and it still tells them that the one you have is current, when in fact it is not.
