Just Found This Site The Other Day. We Got Some Snow Over The Weekend And I Pushed The Button On The Dash And Nothing Would Work Do I Need To Get Out And Press Something Outside
Welcome to the site. Sounds like you have a lot to learn, This site will defenetaly help. The transfer case is bolted to the rear of the transmission. It will have driveshafts coming out of it. one of to the side goes to the front axle and the one directly behind trans and transfer case goes to the rear axle. And since it is new to you look in the middle of the front wheels there might be a dial you need to turn to engage the hubs.
What are some details about your truck, year, engine, trans, so on.
And first does the light on the dash light up? If it does Check to see if you have manual or auto hubs. The Manuals will have a place to turn in the middle of the front wheel's, you turn one way to lock them and the other to unlock them. If they are auto hubs it will just have a ford 4X4 auto locking hub decal on it and will automatically lock when its put in 4x4.
If it doesn't light up, check the fuses in the fuse panel in the cab. there shoul;d be a label on the back on the removable panal. One should be labeled electric 4X4, if that fuse is good then it might be the shift motor which is a fairly inexpensive and easy fix.
As for the red and green button, i dont have electronic shift and have never heard it referred to before. The hubs work independently from the transfer case.
Good luck
