Its a good idea for looks alone, but its a vicious cycle. You go to the 285s, then comes the leveling kit and bigger tires yet and eventually you end up lifting and huge tires.
Check out the Toyo A/T. I have them on my truck can't remember the size, but they are 2 size's larger than stock. I have 25000 on these tire's. Not very noisy and they ride nice. Check them out on the Toyo website.
A level kit is a must, your truck looks better when it is level. Mine looked funny with the nose much lower than the rear. The level kit makes your truck look awesome even with the stock tires. I had to go one step further and went with the big tires and custom rims. Michelin LTX tires are what I recommend if you go with the 285's on the stock rims. Welcome LongTime to ford-trucks.com

What leveling kit did you use? I'd love to see a pic?? Thanks
I'm gonna be due for tires in about 3 months. I can't put a lift in because I won't fit into the parking garage at my work anymore, what do you guys suggest?
285 looks the best on 99-04 trucks. Any bigger and it is just too much tire and not enough rim. Take a look in my gallery for the way the 286 16's looked.
As far as a leveling kit. Most 250's dont need a leveling kit. They sit 2" lower in the rear and when the truck has X code plow package springs it sits higher in the front. My 250 with X springs sits DEAD level. Ground to center of the wheel well with my 285 65 18 is like 41" for front and rear.

boxcar1974, what size are those tires? 285/?/16 looks good. Also where did you get the LED tail lights?
I have both 285 sizes in my gallery. First are some 285 75 16. My current tires are 285 65 18. The 285 16's were nice but I like the larger rims so I baught a set of 18" SVT wheels and the 18" tires to match.
The LED's I got from pure deisel power. They are great. A nice look without that crazy look of the euro's and they are VERY bright.

Lift it.....then dig a hole about 6" deep in the parking spot!
