How do you diagnose water pump failure?

Why do you ask? What are your symptoms? Mine went out at 80k and it never leaked so the gauge never indicated a problem. I started hearing a weird noise and when I pulled over the fan shaft bearing was shot and the fan was all over the place even hitting the shroud. I couldnt believe it never leaked!

2000 EX v10

My temp guage is barely moving past minimum. I have had a slight drop in coolant below the min mark, and i have noticed minor minor leaking on the ground. There is currently coolant in the system.

I was going to start with replacing the thermostsat today?

Sounds like thermostat, if your pump fail'd she should be getting nice and toasty. Can you see about where the leak is coming from? You might have 2 seperate problems.

I have a '91 maxiam and when i had it changed they got the wrong temp so it open's up waaaaay to soon. In the winter it runs to cold.

I got the 'stat changed today and heat is back to normal in cab. The temp guage is 3/8 of the way now under normal conditions (its winter up here in Canada). Got a coolant back pressure flush as well. to clea the systems. Its prob never been done (220,000km)

Thanks everyone. I'm going to closely monitor the coolant level just to be safe.
