After wasting so much time and money on my sandrail and getting very little enjoyment out of it, I started to have this twisted dream and I was curious what others may think of it.
I'd like to find a Bronco (preferably with a trashed body), remove the body, and install a sandrail-style roll cage around the frame to make an open, off-road thrash machine. Maybe I've seen "Beyond the Thunderdome" too many times.
Does it sound like it would take too much work? The driver controls would be the tough part, since the steering column, shifter, and pedals would need to be custom mounted, but I could install huge tires without bothering with a lift.
I don't want to trash my nice Bronco, so it would be fun to have one in which I had no problem doing crazy stuff, never having to worry about body panels and paint. It would also be really easy to work on!
I think you would have to have alot of backspacing to account for the larger tires so that they do not rub on the frame or radius arms. Otherwise, you would have to do some steering lock changes to keep from rubbing. Good luck?
That would be Sweet. One bad *** sand rig! I dont see how it would be to big of a deal, just make your engine compartment enclosed so you can have your wiring and control modules. Steering column would mount just like it does on a sandrail, diamond plate dash and guages. Good idea for makin one from a bronco frame!!!
