hey guys i have on 03 f-250 diesel with 120,000 miles on it and it stock i just want to clean her out and get it to run better the fuel mile not so good and just want to know if i but it in the tank will it help clean it up and run better it been about 32 deg outside for the last 2 weeks i live in chicago so On FTE we NEVER use this word or any like it..Admin snow any help would rock guys thank a lot
It has alcohol in it. Don't use it in your 6.0L. Try to find some biodiesel and run a little of that thru it, but be sure to cut it down so it won't gel on you. If you can't find biodiesel, go get some Power Service or some Stanadyne.
ok that what i was thinking but you guys say run some bio in it and it will clean it up ?? im trying to find a good way to keep it running clean and running good?? thank and sorry about the first post of the spelling and the words i use i was not all here when i made it sorry guys

Yes, at concentrations above B5 (5% biodiesel/95% petroleum diesel), biodiesel has solvent properties and will clean varnish and other deposits from the fuel system components. Using B20 or greater in older trucks will sometimes loosen enough deposits to clog fuel filters, so be sure to have extras on hand if you use it.
This is just one way to help keep your fuel system clean. There are others.
I use SEAFOAM in everything. I normally put a can of Seafoam in every other fill up on the X and I use Lucas injector cleaner when I don't use Seafoam. 58,000 miles with the below mods and no injector or puking problems (knock on wood). Maybe I'm just lucky so far. FWIW!
Lucas is OK--no alcohol in it. Maybe the amount of Seafoam you use doesn't put enough alcohol in the system to cause any damage. Or maybe it's cumulative. Time will tell, I guess.

Moebdick.......after I read your response I went and read every word on the Seafoam can. I could not find the word ALCOHOL. Now maybe they call it something else but I'm not aware of it. Also, I would be surprised to see a product as popular as Seafoam to knowingly risk diesel damage. The lawsuits would put them out of business.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but I searched the web for seafoam ingredients, and apparently it contains isopropyl alcohol, which is the same as rubbing alcohol.
I've used it in my gasser (a 351 in my 92 F150) with great results. I'd be hesitant to try it in my 6.0 though. I do use DK at every fillup. I've changed over to the white bottle now that the temps are below 35. The white bottle has anti-gel, the grey does not.
A number of diesel fuel additives contain alcohol. Power Service 911, for example. It's used to solubilize moisture, prevent gelling and de-ice fuel lines and filters. I guess it may clean things a little as it goes through the system, too. I'm not sure exactly what alcohol will do to a diesel engine, but it apparently lowers the flashpoint and burn characteristics of the fuel somehow. Since injection timing is based on a given fuel flashpoint and combustion duration, alcohol can throw off the combustion timing or something. Burns hotter, too. Good for racing I guess.
I doubt occasionally using 2 or 3 ounces of alcohol per tank would do any damage, but I really don't know. My engine manual says don't use alcohol in the fuel. That's why I told Beez not to use Seafoam. I knew it had some alcohol in it and there are plenty of diesel fuel additives that don't.
I would find and run Bio. I live near Chicago and you can find it just takes some time. If this will be the first time you have ran it plan to change your fuel filter after a tank or two.
I use Seafoam in the fuel tank of gas engines it was created for... I use Biodiesel at upto 20% in my diesel especially after the Ultra low sulfer #2 came out.
Like Blackhat said, its not good for the injectors. If I remember right, the alcohol absorbs moisture, and then when that hits the injectors, it can destroy them due to the high pressures/temps.
Many may have gotten away with additives with alcohol, but possibly due to your fuel being free of water. I think Power service 911 is meant to deal wi a problem where your fuel is already solidified, and not a preventative measure.
