I am new to the EFI 460's, even though I have had BBF's for a long time. I have one in a rock crawler project I am working on and I fired it up for the first time in about 4 months tonight. When I got the truck it hadn't run in 2 years, so I put a set of plugs in it and it seemed to run fine so I didnt mess with it. Since then I have totally cut the truck up, removed all the emissions crap, cut the horns off the air intake tubes, and installed 2 open element filters in place of the stock air box. Other than that, its stock....I finally got it to fire up, and it had more lope than my other truck with a 650 lift roller cam in it. Although it sounds good, its prolly gonna run like crap. So I pulled all the plugs and they were blacker than black. Its hard for me to believe that on less than 30 minutes run time that they could be so bad already. Anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate it....I am ready to go bash some rocks lol
You need to get it out on the road and run it, or at least around the yard. Letting it sit around and running it very little can foul up the plugs. Also old fuel will make it run bad too.
is it pouring out black smoke? if it is check the map sensor i had mine unhooked on my 86 FI 302 and it had one hell of a lope, plugs were BLACK and it dumped more smoke than a tuned diesel under load.
Hmm map sensor eh....I bought a new set of plugs for it yesterday and I will run it again tonight after I hook some hydraulic lines back up. When I got it, it had two map sensors, one plugged in laying on the motor, and the one up on the firewall. I assumed the one that was plugged in was the good one so I mounted it. I will definately check that out as well this evening. Thanks
