The other day I got in the truck at 0530, fired her up, and when I turned on the lights, the instrument cluster didn't go on. My tranny/boost/EGT gauges work, so I know the switch and fuses are good. I figured what the hell, I can tear it apart later. While driving down the road, I hit a bump and it went on again, then off after about a minute. I then smacked the dash, and it flickered on and off again.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should look for? I plan on taking the cluster out and checking the wiring harness, but there really shouldn't be anything else than either a loose wire, loose bulb(s) or bad ground right?
On my ranger the dash light bulbs went out all at once, every single one of them. I got pissed and hit the top of the dash and they all came on again for about 5 minutes. I had the dealer in Lubbock tear it apart, and they gave me evrey bulb back, and each one had burned out. It was an '02 and that was in '06
Could be a bad ground or it could be a faulty fuse. The gauges will still work but the illumination is usually tied to the parking light fuse. Check your parking lights.
TTD- sounds just like me LOL I'll just have to tear it apart and replace the bulbs for GP and check all the wires at the same time.
riggz- my pyro/boost/tranny gauges are spliced off the parking lights, so that's why I ruled that out. At least it'll be a lot cheaper fix than what ever that switch cost!
