I was thinking about using there synthetic version in my next transmission fluid change. Has any body ever tried this combination, with any success. I was reading some online forums and they all seem to say the transmission will shift more firmly, to the point it can be annoying. Is that good for and older AOD or could It cause some other problems?
Also the repair manual says it could take 12 quarts of transmission fluid for an empty transmission. I need to know how many quarts a fluid change should be needed?

I can't find the filter change oil capacity, but it will probably be around 3 or 4 quarts. Put 3 in, start the engine, and then check the dipstick. You should have a cold level and the hot level. Don't fill it to the hot level unless you have been driving it a couple miles.
The firmer a auto tranny shifts, the longer it will last. A smooth shift comes from slipping the clutches. Like everything else, it's a trade off between being able to stand the jerk from the shift, versus life of the clutch packs.
