Ignition 8 to 6?

i am taking the emissions stuff out of my 300 and i was told that i needed to change the emissions set up cause of the computer using the emissions stuff for information. SO then i have a 4rd gen mustang that has a duraspark ignition in it and i wanted to know if i could put a six cylciner cap on the 8 cylinder distributer. If you have any other advice about the ignition stuff when converting to duraspark it would be greatly appreciated
thanks everyone

No, an 8 cylinder distributor won't work on a 6 at all. Not even all that sure it would even fit into the block. You need a druaspark distributor for the 300, the 200/250 ones won't fit either.
My question is to why you would be trying to do that. Save money? If there aren't any junk yards in your area with older 300s in them, check ebay. There's usually a DSII dizzy on there for pretty cheep. Most parts places will have them also for decent price, get a 1980 or so & that'll work fine.
What will work from your mustang is the module & possibly the harness. The harness wires might be a little too short for a truck application though. I belive with your '85, you'll have the connections for duraspark, so all you'll need to do is "plug & play" so to speak.

Your DS2 will have to be recurved for non emissions running too.

You will definitely need a pure 6 cylinder distributor. In fact, you will need one with weights, springs, and a vacuum advance to control your timing.

If you decide to get a new distributor, consider our custom curved Duraspark Distributor built with our new Full Length Oil Impregnated Bronze Bushing. The full length bushing improves timing stability and spark scatter. If stock appearance is not an issue, take a look at our one piece D.U.I. Distributor. Whether you choose the Duraspark or the D.U.I., we curve each on a distributor machine based on your engine combination. Please see them at:

Also, there is now an excellent installation article on the D.U.I. Distributor on the Ford-Trucks.com site at:

My neighbor's feedback carb 84 F-150 300 is running just fine without the smog pump and cat and egr, hell even the feedback portion of the carb doesn't even work, and it runs just fine. As long as you leave the O2 sensor on, the computer shouldn't notice a thing if you take the smog pump, egr, and cat off.
