I have an 03 6.0 XLT 4x4 FX4 it appears to be one of the lucky 03's with a clean report and no issues yet.
My question is what is this little port on the right hand side of the steering column it is a small rectangle with 5 little brass connectors and a red light ?
looks a security key some dealers install. With it active you have to insert a key in it to start the car. So it can't be stolen off the lot. When they sell the truck they deactivate it..
If your truck runs with nothing in it they either already disabled it or they broke off the key in it. They did that when I had my nissan frontier a few years ago. It was an option to have a key (which looked like a circuit board) that was removeable. Or you can have it permanently installed. They have a bunch of them that are all on one board that snap off.
