Hi all. I'm thinking of buying a used Ford F-150 (I can't afford a new one), about the years of 1999-2000. I'm going to look for something with a V8 and auto trans. Anything I should look for as far as any problems or troubles any of you 1999-2000 owners may have had? I want to know what the trouble points on these trucks are so I know what to look for. Thanks for any help you can give.
Hey there, well first of all you are making a wise choice looking for an F-150. First of all I have a 2000 and I haven't had one problem with it!!! I would get the 5.4L Triton and not the 4.6L, as it is way too weak! Another thing I would go for is the 4X4 Off Road package, this makes your truck more versatile. It basically consists of stiffer shocks and skid plates. I live in Utah and 4 wheel drive makes life easier when theres snow on the roads. It also helps to have a towing package, which consists of a class III receiver and a Transmission cooler. Make sure you at least get the 3:55:1 rear axle. The only problem I've really ever heard of on the F-150 is a sensor that goes to the transmission that can come loose and ruin your transmission. I wish I could be more specific, but thats all I know. You can ask the dealership about it if you wish. This problem was on a 97, the first year this body style came out. Anyway email me if you wish if you have anymore questions and I'll try to answer them the best I can. Happy Hunting.
I've gotta a 2000 F150, 5.4 XLT 4X2, SuperCab. I have the Class III hitch and 6300 payload package. It's been a great truck, (knock on wood). I had to take it back to the dealers ONLY for a dent that was in it when I bought it. Otherwise - simple regular maintenance. It's at 37000 miles and time for a new one.
I've towed with it and done some long distance driving but mostly daily commuting (15 miles round trip in Metro Detroit). I have the soft tonneau cover on it. 13 - 16 mpg, even towing 3500 pounds.
Trading it in on another, just like it. I'm kinda of miffed though. My 2000 is Chestnut brown with gold lower panel. Has two rows of pinstriping (much like a lariat) - really sharp looking. The color is off the market for 2002s - the color combination is reserved for the King Ranch Crew Cab now.
Where are the door cracks. I have a Canadian made 2000 F150 Lariat 4x4 Supercab..I've looked and can't find any. I want to be able to have it fixed before warranty is up.
