ever wondered how to operate a truck with an auxilliary trans mission? Go to you tube and check out Learning how to shift two sticks. This cat is buisier than a one legged man in an *** kicking contest. Maybe someone here can post a direct link.
If so this is Freightrain, he's on this site and he's on the big mack trucks site. Cool video to. The first video come from the old BMT site and the 2nd one from the duel discussion board. He can get with it I know that.

I've always drove trucks like that. Only time to use the clutch is to start out and on the occasional hill you have to use the clutch to pull it out of gear to downshift "Sometimes".
They will last a very long time if you do everything right. It's a coordination you come up with. For example If you have a standard shift car or pickup test yourself on it. Start out in first gear run your rpm's up to say 2500 to 3200 and pull the car out of gear start pulling down to 2nd gear if you grind the gear you've waited to long and the rpm's have dropped down to low. It's all about the rpm. When you shift from 1st to 2nd you obviously have a rpm change and when you shift it'll fall back in gear around the rpm you would be turning at that speed. I do this on my '89 toyota sometimes just for the heck of it, but every vehicle is different. I had a '88 subaru that would not shift without the clutch. Hope I haven't confused anyone.
