Its done, finally!!!!
Well I got it all back together a few hours ago. It was a royal PITA but I saved $900 so that makes it all worth it. Too bad it couldnt have gone out in the summer, my back would have liked it much better, cold concrete and being older dosent mix good...........
.For the guys that said that they can replace the gasket without dropping the pump, I see now how that can be done. If I ever need to do it again, I will go that route. The one piece gaskets makes this possible. Even with dropping the pan, I still had to fish the gasket around the pickup after the pump was reinstalled. The biggest reason I dropped the pan in the first place was to clean it out real good and to inspect the pickup tube and screen. No sledge in the pan, nothing in the svreen either. This truck has just over 100k miles and still only uses about 1/2 quart between oil changes(before leaking gasket).
The rubberband around the oil pump drive rod, thats an awsome idea, THANKS to whoever thought that one up.
Thanks again to all for the help, ideas, and encouragement.
I am going to try and get some pics of both my F trucks up before long.
There just isnt much better than a good solid older body style F truck!

Did you replace the pump, pickup, and pan? Or just inspect and replace gasket?
Weren't you having oil pressure problems?
I still dont see how the gasket just literally fell apart, it was ripped several places and kinda pushed out, Have had the truck since new and no one has ever put a socket to any pan bolts.
The rubberband trick, wrap a rubberbadn around the ol pump rod a few times, put the rod into the dist, and then tie it off up somewhere higher up on the engine, and once the pump is installed CAREULLY cut and remove the rubber band.
