Hey, well to start off I should tell you exactly what I have. I bought a harthrob cat back from JCWhitney. It consisted of a Y pipe, 21/4 pipes and (ugly) glasspack tips. Before I put the system on I cleaned out the rear cat. It sounds pretty good when you get on it, but you can't really notice it at an idle. I think that having the Y and dual pipes tones the sound alot, because when I knoked out the cat I started it up and it sounded really loud and very throughty but when I put the pipes on it was very mellow, but is still sounded good. In the spring (if it ever gets here) I am going to put 24X31/2 chrome angle cut echo tips on it. I have heard these on other trucks and they make some difference. As far as the torque goes I really don't know, but i really noticed a power difference. I am planning to swap my motor for a 302 because I cooked my motor last weekend. This was due to my own neglagence. I put too much water in my radiator and it froze when the teperature went to 10 degrees, and then I drove it (oops). But anyhow I would recommmend this system because it is easy to install (2 HRS) and has a nice mellow tone to it. Its even better when you knock the cat out.
Well its pretty simple. Just take your exhust off the cat, so you can look in there and see the converter. Just take a steel rod and pound the crap out of it. Then take a wire coat hanger and pull the big chunks out. Start your truck up and rev it to blow out the the little stuff. There is like this piece of steel cloth almost like steel wool in there(???), so make sure you pull that out too. It only takes about half an hour or so. I did this because here in NY it is illegal to take your cats off unless you are replacing them. The law also says that they have to be there but it doesn't say that they have to work. This way I can fool the cops and the place where I get my inspection. Make sure you start your truck up when your done and rev her up. Man is it throughty.
