i have been posting on here about gearing last week i changed from 3.73 to 4.30 and today was the fisrt time i was on the hghwy i got to about 73-75 with or with out the cruise on and every time at about 75 it starts to chime like the door is open any thing under 75 it goes away any help
well if you do not wish to get run over on the thruway in new york you need to move and still being passed at that speed. anyways this has never happened before now. i know that this sounds weird but i tested this out about 10 times while on the thruway today and as long as i am under the 75ish it goes away the truck is only reving at 2500ish as well it happens when in cruise or when working the pedal
I remember someone having this issue before. It was determined that in some markets that is required by local laws. The guy eventually figured out that his PCM was reprogrammed or something to that affect and he had it "turned off" by the dealer. Guess ti is in every PCM's programming ability. Course...I may not be remembering ANY of this correctly.
Anyway...yours wasn't reprogrammed so I have no idea why your would be doing it. I take it no lights on the dash light up when it happens?
nothing lite up and i did take the truck to the dealer because after the regear every one on the forum said that i should have the computer done for the regear but the dealer said that nothing could be done because the computer can not be changed only for tire size maybe something was done at the dealer
The thing with re-gearing is, like in my '96 t-bird when I went from 3.27's to 3.73's, is the driveshaft RPMs.
My '96 t-bird was setup not to go faster than 106MPH from the factory. When I re-geared it, it wouldn't go faster than 95MPH. Even though I changed the speedo gear in the tranny, so the computer knew the right road speed.
I had to get a Superchips to get rid of the speed limiter.
Sounds like yours is doing almost the same thing, just at a different speed. I bet with the other gears, it would go about 85 before it ding-ding-ding'd
I'd say talk to the dealer - there might be a setting for that warning or a way to turn it off totally.

With a comment like that, it sounds as though your dealer either has no clue as to the science behind tire size/regearing and vehicle speed/sensor speed. It is all the same animal, it just has to be approached from a different angle. I suspect the settings are pre-set for specific tire diameters and the shop doesn't have the ability to try to figure out how to compensate for the re-gear issue.
In a nutshell it all comes down to driveshaft revolutions per mile and/or axle/wheel/tire revolutions per mile, depending on where the VSS gets its reading.
Another note: I've done a few miles on the Thruway. My experience is that if you keep your overspeed to the single digits, i. e. 9 mph or less over the legal speed limit, you will be able to drive by a Trooper with radar all day long. But break that double-digit barrier and you will be the object of an Officer's interest.
I would set the cruise of the big rig at 72 or 73, never had a problem. Saw many who "just had to" pass me pulled over on the shoulder on down the road.
the thing is that it was set at about 72-73 then i came to down grade after a few mph 74-75ish that is when the problem happened i stay around 72ish most of the time i do not try any faster the truck is not and was not ment to be a sports car so i try and not drive it like one but when the noise cam up i got me trying to make it happen again and it did happen every time above 74-75

VSS is on the rear differential, and reads rotations of the differential, which is basically axle speed. It doesn't care about gearing.

CORRECT, He beat me to it! Tires yes, gears NO.
Can you tell if it is truly a buzzer, or maybay a residence noise? Could be from a drive shaft out of phase????????

2000 cc super duty v10 3.73 cc lariat 4x4 tan short box ?? Other than a trac-trailer, what is going to run over you?
yes it is a chime like if you left the keys in the ign or the lights on yes i know about the speeding i am not worried about that i am asking about the chiming noise that has never been there before thanks so far for the help everyone
