I'm having trouble with my 4x4 switch on my 05 F-150. It would not go into 4 wheel high or low. I checked all my fuses and all were ok. I was really getting aggrivated b/c the one day I really need 4x4 (snow), it doen't work. Finally on my way home I was pissed and flipped the switch back and forth quilckly and then it when into 4-high.???? Stoped and put in N and shifted into 4-lo too. and back to 4-hi with no problem. Anybody had a similar issue?
I had a problem like that once after I went to the car wash. There's vacum lines that go down to the hubs. Moisture will sometimes get into the lines from the temp changes and all you have to do is grab kettle of hot water and pour it on the rubber lines to the hub and the 4x4 will engage again.. Found this out shortly after buying the truck.
OK - sounds like the snow and cold could have caused the problem then huh? I guess when I was just about home the truck had warmed up enough for it to engage when I tried the switch on last time. So I need to try pouring some hot water on the rubber lines behind the front wheels then, huh? I gotta say thats kinda shotty. What if you dont have access to hot water? I guess you're screwed if you really need the 4x4.
yup, just like I was on the winter road home from Fort McMurray.. Many beer consumed to revieve the stress when I got home. Ford tried to tell me it was the shifting transmission for the 4x4 but when I talked to another tech he told me to pour hot water on the lines and it worked again..
From what i remember the light did come on at first but no 4x4.. then I turn it on and off again and the light I think didn't come one... can't completely remember but after that fix I mentioned I never had a problem since.. Now I only wash it in the winter when I know it'll sit in the garage overnight warm.
OK well thanks a lot. It's been working fine since I got it to go in Sat. - good thing too b/c I needed it this weekend! I'll try that if I have trouble again though.
