i have been reading different pages on antifreeze reco's....and i get a lot of conflicting info....so i thought i would ask other users....as you can see i live n fl, so not too much need for the antiFREEZE part, however i need to prevent overheating, and the ultimate evil of cavitation....
They sell both pre diluted and full strength....not sure which that number is for.
After a second look, the price was 14 dollars a gallon, that was full strength.
look in ur local phone book for any large diesel mach's in ur area they should be able to hook u up. thats what i did, i looked through hear a while ago for the additive to put in the coolent for our motors that helps keep the rear cyclinders from get hot. and keeps every thing lubed. cant remember the name of it though im sure someone else will. but ya they should hook u up with the additive an a couple of patch test slips to check it with. dang wish i new what it was called though!
Hilljack the product is SCA Supplimental Cooling Additive..
FLF350.....DCA4 is Fleetguards name and VC8 is Fords name, same product....... Any IH dealer will have the coolant and single test strips available. Only use distilled or deionized water to mix to 50/50 mixture. You will need 4 gallons of coolant and 4 of the water.... don't forget to clean and fill the overflow bottle... check the hose for clear and clean too. How old and what condition is the rad core in.... clean or scaley. how good is the rad cap 13lb was OEM
Actually I have both, I have bought both kinds.
But when I look in my expense records I did not note which one it was.
When I looked at the price it was evident though.
precharged coolant is good but Caterpillar EC-1 coolant is the best. Its pretty hard to get Cat dealer (predeluted) or Carquest (concentrate). You can run it 300k miles or 3k hrs. add a bottle of recharge and then another 300k or 3k.
you can buy the extended life cat ec-1 compatable antifreeze at most wally-worlds (walmart) for 10 bucks a gallon. its 50% diluted so i think you need about 8 gallons. its red in color and supposed to go 300,000 miles before it needs a boost for three hundred more miles. i run the stuff in my 550 cat powered pete.
cant remember the name of the stuff but it comes in a black jug with red writeing.
if you do run this type of af you need to flush the system real good because this stuff wont work if it has the other af mixed with it
gt
went out to my big truck and found an extra gallon of that ec-1 antifreeze, its called "Final Charge Global"
walmart sells it for about 10 bucks a gallon
