well i did a few searches and had some trouble so i am going to GROUP all my questions into one post to save space.
1. best place to buy patch panels? would probably need floor pans, supports, rockers.
2. how do you find a replacement cab? there are about 2-3 layers of patch mental rivited down and most of the door jam on the passenger side is either patched or gone, lol and just about everything under the lower door hinge, im actually suprised the door closes properly?
3. how many layers was there stock? inside and under side 2 pieces?
4. is there a how to somewhere on replacing the metal floor in the bed? i have full size all new metal?
5. anyone have pictures of how a stock cab/cab floor SHOULD look?
i am moving along slowly on my truck but the PIA at the moment is the cab. the back frame has been cleaned up and por 15'd, wires fixed up,etc. if anyone can answer any of the questions or point me in the right direction that would be great, kinda flying by the seat of my pants and i dont 100% know what i am doing lol

Sponsors on the left have some of the patch panels.
As far as the cab if it's rusted out real bad it's easier buying a donor truck, and swap cabs. These old trucks have a lot of metal so it takes a good while to eat through. Check the cab mounts while your there, they a have a tendency to rust out too.
It takes some welding skills with a mig welder to install replacement panels. You have to basicly tack weld every 2" jumping around to prevent warpage.
It would also be helpful if you told us what yaer and where you are located. I haven't seen too many parts trucks in 2nd floor apt LOL. I do know there are some in SoCal though. The floor is the same from 65-79. Cab supports, rocker panels, and cab corners all changed through the years. How are your welding skills your looking at doing lots of welding if your gonig to save it.
Im on the 3rd floor of my place...if I was married, Id be headed for divorce court...
As for the metal...If you are on the east coast of US, go west...find a cheap truck as stated above...after 40 some odd years, theres bound to be issues on most, but the south western trucks have fared the best.
Post pics of what ya have so we can advise a lil better....
yeah i supose pictures would be the way, lol. but i am from south central pa. i am pretty sure with what i am finding that i will have to do a cab of rest. i will have some pictures posted up this evening, pictures speak better than i do.

it would probably be hard to find something around here in pa. space is limited for me so i guess i will finish the bed then take the cab off? either to do what i can or find a parts truck and rob the cab? i am really at a loss of what to do,lol. is it saveable?
just so i can study, what would be the best way to learn how to remove the cab? i dont really have anyone to show me... tutorials? suggestions on books/ manuals?

The question you need to ask, is what you want to do with the truck, and what you want it to look like in the end, and how much work you want to do.
It's likely way too far gone for any kind of a show truck, but if you really want to put in the work, you could probably get a good usable truck. Mine wasn't as far gone as that, but it was pretty bad, and it turned out okay.
yeah i am not going for show, at least not at this stage of my life, lol. The body is fine, no rust through or deep scratches, its just that dang cab. This will just be a weekend toy. I want it to be nice, what people dont see under the carpet wont hurt no one. Seeing as i dont have a home(apt.) i want it to be stable enough to enjoy till i am better suited to go all out. But hey it will be fun no matter what, just have to get the cab off and see whats up
Yes you have some serious rust, I have to agree a donor truck or replacement cab would be your best bet. However I realize that can be a challenge if you don't have a good place to work and store an extra vehicle. It looks like a nice truck other than the rust. I have some pictures in my gallery that may help in showing how it should look intact. I also have replaced the bed floor and there are pictures of that. One thing for sure you have come to the right place for help and encouragement, this is the premier Ford truck site. Another idea is to check out everyones gallery that has one posted it is amazing how much you can learn from what others are doing or have done. Keep the faith.

I did have a place to work, but no possibility for a donor cab either. They just don't exist, living in the rust belt, and I'd have had no place for one either.
If you choose to try and fix what you have, most of the metal is available from various vendors (lots of links here on this site). Some of it you'll have to try and fabricate from sheet metal - I know I did. The paint and bodywork forum of this site is a big help too. Good luck!
