tuner or not??

Just picked up and 04 CC diesel. It's all stock. I dont know if I should put a tuner on it or not. It has 54k on it and dont want to void the warranty. Just need some feedback on the subject. Does it void the warranty?? I sold this kid a bike not to long ago he drives an 04. His really pumped up. Every mod in the book and he still has warranty!! Dont understand. Just looking for some real world input. Thanks

Find out what dealership he uses. Some dealer's are cool with mods (mine is). The answer to your question though is yes a tuner will void the warranty if your dealer catches it AND rats you out to the Ford warranty dept.

If you do go with a tuner get a SCT Xcal and some custom tunes. You won't be sorry!

Ditto what riggz said. I got my SCT X3 from Matt at Spartan just the other day and I love it. You may want to think about some gauges and a exhaust as well. Especially if you are going to run tunes.

I'd also like to get some info on this subject.

I've done some reading on this site through the search function, and man, it seems like tuners REALLY give the 6.0 problems. They seem to be problem prone as it is, and this just makes it worse.

I've got a set of 305/65/18's on mine and a 2.5" leveling kit with an add a leaf in the rear. I noticed a big difference in top end power with the bigger tires. I have been seriously considering regearing to 4.11 and recalibrating the computer to the tires and gears.

The shops here, 4 Wheel Parts and Desert Rat, tell me to just do a tuner and be done with it. At around $600.00 thats certainly tempting, but the persistant problems are what have kept me from doing it so far.

I agree with checking with your dealer and getting the gauges.

What I have noticed with people that are using tuners in my area is that they aren't properly equiped with the gauges to tell them what is happening and are working the crap out of their truck which leads to all sorts of problems. Just my observation.

By the way I don't have a tuner and don't plan on getting one anytime soon.

The only person I would talk to about a tuner is Matt at Spartan Diesel Technologies. He tunes especially for the SCT which is made for Ford. If you talk to anyone on this site about tuners, that is what they are going to recomend. I did a lot of research as well and anyother tuner, bully dog, etc will hurt your truck from what I have heard. Talk to Matt. He will set you straight.

If you did your searching you probably discovered that the Edge or Bully Dog tuners give the 6.0L problems. There have been VERY few people reporting problems with an SCT tuner and those problems were minor.

If you mod and have to have it towed to a different dealer that is not mod friendly, kiss the warranty bye-bye.

I have a Hypertech tuner on my 04 & the local dealer didn't void its warranty.I plan to upgrade to a sct excal3 from Matt when I get the cash. The one I have is ok but I've run a sct on my last truck & consider it the best tuner for Ford on the market. I want Matts economy tune with a towing tune & a aggressive street tune for the weekends to go out & smoke the local ricers. I've beat a few in town so bad they don't even try me anymore. Nothing like beating a loud ricer with a 4 ton truck IMO
