Need help Please!!!

I had a pinging problem and took the truck to the ford place and they said that they don't usually have spark nock problems with v10s "ha!". They said that a new set of plugs and a three stage carbon clean shoud clear so I had them do it. They said drive it and if it is still there they will check for updates on the computer. Well got it back and ping was noticably better, but it seemed to want to miss badly when in gear, but stopped. When in neutral it seems fine, but when I put it in gear and the engine loads down with the break on like your stopped at a light it sputters eratically and pretty badly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm...new plugs put in? Sounds like maybe the didn't seat a COP good or maybe they broke one (or more) or maybe one or more of the wires isn't hooked up.

Cleaned injectors? Maybe one is bad, still plugged or plugged up due to the crap they put in the rail.

Book -- My first question is how did they determine the spark plugs needed changing and running cleaner would cure the ping? Did they run diagnostics and run a "live" capture? How many miles on your 2001 V10?

Could be several issues causing a ping condition. If it happens under load, then it could be injectors or even the fuel pump. Believe it or not, but it could be the MAF sensor.

If you have NEVER cleaned the MAF sensor, then it is time. This is really a once a year must...IMO. At least here in the dusty Southwest.

Well, I got the Miss fixed. The no# COP crapped out. I took it back and they gave me a used one for free and it cleared it up. As far as the ping. They ran all of the diagnostic codes and tested and found nothing. I am having them check for updates and make sure I have the latest program

Oh yeh I cleaned the MAF by spraying the sensor while it was on the truck. I am not sure if it is supposed to be taken out first but I could see it behind the filter so I sprayed it while it was on the truck

IMO...that is not the best way of doing it. This past weekend on Sunday...I did a winter maintenance package on my 2003 SD...and that included cleaning the MAF sensor. It is easy to remove once you take out the upper portion of the filter housing. Then using a T20 bit on 2 screws...and it is out. Of course that is after you remove the "inner" portion of the housing to get at the MAF sensor.

Good luck...
