Edge Issues?

Hey all,

I was trying to get an idea of how everyone's edge tuner is working. Is anyone having problems? My main concern is how it firms up the shifts. Increasing the line pressure seems to be the way they would do it. Isnt that bad for a transmission? I have 64K miles and would like to get one but not at the expense of the life of my truck. Thanks!

I never liked the firm shift feel....even though a lot of guys do. You can adjust the level of the shirt firmness...I run mine at 0 and it's pretty close to a stock feeling (shifting wise)

The firmer the shift, less slippage, less slippage a cooler running tranny, cooler tranny longer life. I just bumped my edge up to level 3 I will not ever go back to a stock setup well worth the money.

Increasing line pressure is a ok practice but some like a shift that is not so harsh, This is why i am a fan of custom tuning, even before being an SCT dealer. On these drive by wires vehicles some of the hard shifting come from modifing it and TV pressures.
Take a serious look as SCT...and make your decision based on your likes and dislikes.

On my Diablo Sport programmer, the firm shifts occur at heavy throttle and feels stock under normal throttle. I have my shift firmness all the way up. I have 27,000 miles on my 05 F150 and most of the miles were with the programmer installed.

I honestly havent even thought of SCT, do you have any info you could send or possibly a place to start? I had an SCT tune on my Mach 1 Mustang and it was fantastic. Thanks.

the transmission shifting was the reason i sold my edge. true a firmer shift is better to a degree, however it was always a prolonged shift. it was never quick and firm, which is what ya want. these shifts take longer than stock and are harder which that longer shift will cause the tranny to heat up. period. i had it in for a month and a couple months later convinced myself to try again, had it in for 3 days. it is definately a degraded shift. i would look for somethin that does not mess with the tranny.

I have run level 3 on my Egde most of the time and now have 61,000 miles on my truck. One of the reasons I wanted a tuner was firmer shifts as it saves the cluthes. It eliminates the built in slippage that creates heat. I have run my shift pressure at +12 since getting it. I do not ever want one of these trucks without a tuner such as the Edge. Love the gauges too!

prolonged shift? what do you mean it revs the motor up more before shifting?

I have never had a problem with my edge. The trans will run cooler on level 2 other than stock also. Edge has a feature in there that you can add or subtract any of the shift firmness you want. You can set it so it is just like it came off the factory line.

I have been very happy with my edge. I have had to drive my truck for about 2 weeks without it because I sent it back to have edge look at it and I missed it a lot. The truck drives so much better with it-in any setting (1, 2 or 3-custom or not).

I've noticed that when I have mine set on Level 2 Towing, when I put the pedal to the floor on the interstate, the engine revs up while it's shifting and then it feels like once it has fully shifted, the RPM's drop a little almost like the transmission is finally catching. So to me, it seems like the Transmission Tuning in Level 2 makes it worse, althought it seems like the engine adjustments seem pretty good. Does anyone know what number to put the shift firmness on under the custom settings on level 2 so that it shifts like stock? Thanks.
