Speedometer Fix

so it's me again w/ the 81 f-150 w/ the 4 spd...this time, the speedometer isn't working properly...i haven't taken it apart yet to examine the damages but i've already been told that it's more than likely the gear on the main shaft of the tranny and the only way to fix it is to pull the main shaft from the tranny so on so forth...there's got to be an easier way, right??

I would look at the plastic gear that plugs into the tail housing first.

I have the SAME problem, I installed a new cable and gear, turns out it the gear in the tail of the tranny....mines not TOO hard to fix, drop the drive shaft, the tail on my NP 435 has 4 bolts on it....I'm used to not having one, I use an after market 4" tach as my speed'o....NASCAR baby
I have the redline needle set at what 55 would be, {thanks to the guy on the highway with a digital dash, thats why I was riding beside you}
