Couple questions

I have an 84 Ford F250 with a built 351 windsor in it. I wanna start wheelin the truck and Ive done a few upgrades to it.

Besides building the motor, Ive replaced the T-case (208) the old one died, All new U joints, I killed the rear dana 60 and I put in a 14 bolt FF. I know the motor, trans (T18), transfer case and rear end are plenty strong for 33" or 35" tires. My questions are:

1. TTB, how do I put a solid axle where it sits? What has to change If I do a dana 44?

2. Shackel flip in the rear, I put in the 14 bolt FF axle so I threw the lift blocks out in an effort to stop or ease my wheel hop issue. I lost 2" or so with the stock blocks out. If I flip the rear shackle, what are the issues? How much lift is gained? I realize only 2-3"s. P.S. I can fabricate and do what ever.

Thanks guys, first time posting in this forum so take it easy on me!

Matt

Sorry I can't help with the SAS
I got about 5" of lift with the shackle flip. You can also drop the shackle pivot point and gain more lift. When I did mine I got the front lifted first then built the shackle flip brackets to set my ride height just where I wanted it. Dropping the rear of the springs helps out with the pinion angle too

There's a couple pics in my Supercrew gallery

Hmmmm now I'm thinking about doing one to my other crewcab....and get rid of the factory highboy blocks

Now that was a well worded question/post. I wish everyone would do it this way!

Sounds like your truck is pretty well set up(built 351W should really help make things fun).

For the shackle flip" IF you just take the shackle bracket and flip it, that will give you 3"s.
Skymanufactoring has a nice kit, and if you put it in the designed place then it will give you 3" lift, but it can easily be fabed in to a different location to give you more lift, and a better pinion angle.
That would be a good way to lift the rear.

As for the front...a SAS is the way to go, but it isn't always possible(usually b/c of money, or at least that's why I don't have a D60 front).
You said you can fab, so doing the swap wouldn't be a problem, but locating one at a fair price might be.

If you find a D44 HD out of a 77-79 F250 4x4, then it would swap in, but I believe swapping into the new model will require more fabrication than a D60 out of a 80s+ model. The 80-96 F250s never had a solid axle D44, so a that possibility is out.
IF you can not get a D60, then the 70s D44 HD can be fit with chromos and be pretty stout.

The Front TTB D44 isn't the strongest thing around, but can handle 35s.
The NP208 also isn't the best t case, but if your not on the rocks with 35s+, then you won't have a problem there either.

haha yea Ive made my way around the forums and it just seems to be easier to give all the info at once.

Since I threw the blocks out my truck looks a little........goofy? that doesnt quite describe it... Anway and I wanted the few inchs I lost back.

So I guess the "best" thing to do would just run the TTB till it busts? I dont wheel very much so It wont get pounded on a whole lot. Least the front axle wont!

Yea the 208 will be replaced by a 205 eventually. I mangled my stock one with the new motor. Stipped the high range gear set right out!

Im only running 33" x12.50's so there not to big.

What is different dana 44 vs the 60 up front? other than shier strength?

There is literally a montain here of HP 44's in a local yard.

check out my gallery to see my truck. Ill put sum pics in there of my new 14 bolt FF. that thing weighs a TON!

sweet lookin 250 gearhead, l love the 2tone jobs.

how ya go about bustin up the dana 60?, or did i miss that part...

i got my solid 44 sitting in the basement, and going ahead with my daily driver/monthly wheeler using the ttb front end til its gone, or going.

so im with you on that, but i would drop the $200 and start setting one up for when you will need it.

im not too heavy on the skinny pedal, so far so good

here ya go Stump Buster haha all my stress and money are pretty well shown here. My truck will ONLY break on my when im nice I dont know why! and only going to school for some reason....hmmm

Well the story behind my dana 60 was quite nasty.... I was going down the freeway at 70 going to school. I let off the loud pedal to let some cars merge and the cab started vibrating like hell! I was like thats kinda wei..., BANG! Both rear tires locked up and then broke loose again about 30ft later. I kept driving. I limped it to my school exit. It drove a little shaky but I didnt go that far not to finish my day. So I drove to school with it going CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK. Every tire rotation. So going 35, that was quite loud. So I got home pulled the cover..... o dear lord.

It turns out, high horsepower and parts with miles on them. Dont like me. The bolt holding the spider cross shaft sheard off. The shaft slowly rotated out of the carrier smacked the pinion, ripped the shaft a new one and took my pinion with it! So the ring and pinion were shot, the carrier was literally bent, and my cross shaft is snapped and jammed into the carrier and under the ring gear.

Heres a few pics........

Cross pin slid out

My new and improved cross pin

That'd be what locked the rear end up

Missing pinion teeth

Heres my 208 high range gear set.......will going to school.

This is my 351 windsor (383) I Built. Gives ya a good Idea why things keep breaking.

should be able to get a dana 60 out of a like year truck and just bolt it in using the leaf springs, so i've seen.

O haha sorry forgot to add that I did a custom rear end swap already! I put in a 14 bolt FF. I think it was in my first message. Cut the spring perches off and shock mounts. Rewelded, did custom brake lines and a combo U joint to make it all work. Works pretty well!

Gearhead,
I love carnage! Seeing your pics makes me think Im not the only one. Sweet looking stroker btw! Id PM Fishmandotcom. He is one guy I know who has done a SAS on a 80s F250. If money allows do yourself a favor and get a 60. If not a D44 will be ok but dont be suprised if you break chit with tires over 35"

Im giving you rep points for the damage!
