Do the 6.0's have problems with head gaskets? I'm asking this because the 04 F350 we got here at work was put in for service, and a week later it has new head gaskets.
Also we did a milleage test just the truck doing 115kmph from Saskatoon to Regina got 16mpg, thats with 4.11's duals and AOD.
it was a problem on some, but i don't think it was a common every VIN problem. '04 would be some of the early years...can't say i'm entirely suprised...
The earlier 6.0 did have head bolt problems to some degree. Drop into the 6.0 forum to read up all about it.
That is some good fuel mileage at that speed with those gears, I take it was was a light load.
What rpm`s was it running @115 kms an hour?
hard to beat the look of the interior in those king ranch trucks!! and ooohhhh the thought of heated leather on a long highway drive does something for me...
There are a few overlapping problems:
1. Coolant puking - ths system was not designed with enough expansion room. maybe at Navistars power level on this engine it was adequate but with the higher power level that Ford has it set at, coolant will puke out of the degas bottle --> Fords fix was to run the level lower !! This can sometimes result in erratic cab heater performance.
2. Cooler leaks pressurizing the system - there are quite a few instances of either EGR of oil cooler leaks causing the system to pressurize.
3. FORD had a bulletin out early about head gasket failure on trucks with power adders. They revised it later to include trucks that pull heavy.
well, since we're on the topic of bum 6.0's, ran into my wife's uncle this afternoon, he works for CN rail. they just lost the engine in a f350 due to a glow plug disentegrating and falling into the cylinder. not real cool stuff!!!
