recently I put a 18"cherry bomb on my stock 300 I6 but I had the tail pipe cut and redirected to exit infront of the rear tire.
since that has taken place, I have lost a lot of power going up hills. It is a three on the tree, and just a week ago i could fly up hills no problem in second, now I have to floor it to get to go 25 up a hill in second. What could be happening?
I am saving up to put in a pair of hedman hedders and a holley 390, would this give me the 115 horse power boost it is said to give?
the engine was rebuilt about 9 months ago.
No sorry, your not going to get 100+ HP on just a carb and headers, maybe a third of that. But these will alow a cam from Clifford, or Ultradyne (many others) to work the way it should.
Then you might have your 100 HP extra.
Oh, and throw away that POS Cherrybomb glasspack. A good turbo muffler has a better sound and less back pressue.
About the hedman headers, don't think they'll just drop in like the instructions say. Have a hacksaw or torch ready to notch the frame. I had to do it and a truck at the F100 Supernationals with the same headers had to do it. Glasspacks aren't a good muffler for that set up. Go with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with 2-1/4" diameter all the way back. They sound a ton better.
My Headman Hedder fit in perfectly, exactly as the instructions said, no modifications to the frame, just had to drop the starter and put it back on with the header half installed. As for mufflers, turbos sound like crap on a 300, make it sound V8ish.... Yeech, 2¼" duals with Cherry bombs doesn't sound too bad, but, I think Purple Hornies would sound best, I've been running it off at the collectors since December, but, I'm going to make it quiet now, can you say sleeper??
