I recently rebuilt my holly 2 barrell on my 56 F100 using the Sac Vintage reuild kit kit. I got the carb back on and it starts and idles fine but when I hit the gas hard there is a slight lag maybe a half second. Its almost like the engine is getting to much or not enought gas but after the hick up it runs great. I have messed with the 2 idle needles on the back of the throttle body but don't notice any real change. Can anybody offer me some advice?? Thanks Bing
sounds like your accelerator pump is either not working or not putting out enough. with the engine off and looking down the throat off the carb, open up the throttle and you should see gas squirting into the carb. should be a good steady stream as you first open the throttles. if not, either the accelerator pump arm is not set right or there is a blockage in the circuit. or you might of left the check valve out when rebuilding it.
another thing it could be is not proper float level. if too low it will stumble.
also the fuel pump pressure might be too low. check that to make sure you have enough fuel pressure.
Mike, sorry for the delay but thanks for the advice. I think the acellator pump is working as gas did squirt into the card. I also set the flaot per the instructions but will raise it to double check. The only question I have is how to check my fuel pressure? Thanks again.
