It's 19* outside and no matter how long it idles the temp will not get off of cold. Don't these 08's have a thermostat in them?
the heater fans doesnt blow hard enough to reach the back seats, kids freeze.
10 miles to wrk and temp is just off cold. Winter cover is the only answer?
Winter cover should help. Using the block heater will also give the truck a head start with warming up. The only other option would have been the supplemental cab heater.
the coldest we have had was mid teens for a couple days. i have not had an issue at all with the heat in mine. actually was quite surprised that it was so good. Now, i have the supplemental heat system that supplys instant heat running on electric until the engine comes up to temp. do you have that? i can say though that my engine seems to get to temp about 10-15 minutes down the road (with no idle warm up).
Well, I cannot find the plug in for the block heater, some say the element is there but you have to buy the friggin cord...supplemental heater, I will look into that- makes me think WHY it is available...is this the first of it's kind?

It appears that you live in MO, if that was the delivery state the block heater cord will not be there unless it was ordered as a option. Ford does not consider MO a cold weather state so the cord is not standard. You could add the cord though.
Adding the supplemental heater at this point is a very expensive option. Far more then if it was ordered with the truck.

you can tell that the suplimental heater is running as the air coming out of the vents is (almost) immediately luke warm. it sould also be listed on your sticker.

This is normal for a diesel engine when it is cold out. Unlike a gas motor a diesel engine cools off when idling. The high idle mod will help the engine warm up a little faster, but the best option is to plug the block heater in at night so the engine coolant is warm. Diesel engines in cold weather and only driven 10 miles will rarely warm up, it is the nature of the beast.
A friend at work didn't notice that the engine was warming up properly because he commute is so short. He did notice that his mileage was dropping and brought it in to the dealer. It has 6K on it and it was the thermostat, (stuck open) his dealer has already seen this before on a 6.4 PSD.

Check your coolant level! mine did that and I had no coolant cause Radiator was bad.
No heat at all at idle very little running down the road.
that is when I checked the coolant anded 3 gal. and had heat!
Also my dealer called today and told me Ford is giving me a winter cover for free
to stop snow from pluging up my air filter! I think there is a TSB on it now.

any heater you plug into lighter socket will help if it blows right on you, other than that its pretty useless. i am talking 20 degees below freezing typically (alberta Canada) heated seats do help a lot up front
sure sounds like the thromestate isnt closing. my 7.3 and 6.0 and 6.4 make heat within a mile and good heat in 2 miles no mater how cold it is out and will melt ice of the windshield in 4 or 5 minutes of ideling. something wrong here.are you sure its not in the heater?

Without my supplemental heater, I wouldn't have had heat on the way to work this past week. After 15 minutes of driving in single digit temps, my cab was nice and warm, but my temperature gauge was pegged on C.
it was -17 a couple days ago in norwich ny and my 350 started rite up, by the time i scaped the ice off the winshield and cleared the hood, i had good heat in less then a mile. one thing i learned long ago,,,never,,,get the climate control heater system. get the standard maual contorl heater. any psd diesel that dosent warm up has just about certainlly have a stuck open stat. or not enough coolent in it, like the other guy said.
